Visit Tianmen (Heavenly Gate) Mountain. At an elevation of 4,980 feet (1,517 meters), Tianmen Mountain is the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie. Tianmen Mountain is characterized by large, limestone mountain plateaus with sheer cliffs and jagged peaks.
99 Bend Hair-Pin Mountain Road: There are 99 sharp curves on the road up to Tianmen Cave, the famous 99 Bends. The best place to see and take photos of these bends is from the cable car. The winding road is built for buses taking travelers from the mountain foot to the top of the mountain and to Tianmen Cave.
Heaven’s Gate Cave: Visit Tianmen Cave or Heaven’s Gate in Chinese. Locally referred to as a cave, although it is actually an arch, it sits on the precipice of Tianmen Mountain at over 4,133 feet in elevation. The cave is about 431.5 feet high and 187 feet wide. To reach the cave, you will need to walk up 999 steps (‘9’ is a lucky number in Chinese culture and 999 stands for eternallife).
Glass Skywalk: Experience the glass skywalk, a 200 foot (60 meter) long cliff-hanging glass
walkway encircling the vertical cliffs of Tianmen Mountain. On a clear day, the 3 foot wide, 2.5inch thick glass walkway offers a crystal-clear view of the rocky ravine 4,000 feet below. Pleasenote that the glass skywalk is not for the feint of heart.
